🌼 PART 1: FLOWER CENTER (Yellow)

We work in a closed round (join each round).

Rnd 1: MR, ch 1 (does not count as st), work 6 sc into ring. Pull tight. Sl st to first sc to join. (6 sts)

FO yellow yarn, leaving a 15 cm (6 inch) tail for weaving in later.

🌸 PART 2: PETALS (Lavender)

Attach lavender yarn to any stitch of the center with a standing sc or sl st + ch 1.

Rnd 2 (Petal Round): Work (sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc) all in the same stitch — this creates one petal.

Sl st to the next stitch (base of next petal).

Repeat: (sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc) in next st, sl st to next st — repeat around until you have 5 petals total.

After the 5th petal, sl st to the first sc of the first petal to join the round.

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing if you plan to attach the flower to something (bag, headband, blanket, etc.).

🪡 FINISHING:

  1. Weave in ends: Use the yarn needle to neatly weave in the yellow tail on the back of the center, and the lavender tails through the petal stitches.

  2. Shape petals: Gently stretch and shape each petal to give a rounded, dimensional look.

  3. Blocking (optional): For a neater finish, pin the flower flat on a blocking mat, lightly mist with water, and let dry.

  4. Attach to projects: Use the remaining tail to sew the flower onto bags, hats, blankets, headbands, brooches, or frames.

💡 TIPS FOR BEGINNERS:

✅ Keep tension even — not too tight, or petals will pucker; not too loose, or they'll look floppy
✅ Count your petals — you should have exactly 5
✅ Work the petal stitches all into ONE stitch — this creates the rounded petal shape
✅ Don't skip the slip stitches — they separate the petals and create definition
✅ Use a stitch marker if you lose track of where rounds start

✨ VARIATIONS:

🌸 Change colors: Try pink petals + white center, or blue petals + orange center
🌸 Add more petals: Work 8 sc into the center ring for 8 petals
🌸 Make it bigger: Use worsted weight yarn and a 4.0 mm hook
🌸 Create a bouquet: Make 5-7 flowers and sew onto a headband or bag
🌸 Add a brooch pin: Attach a pin back to wear as jewelry
🌸 Layer flowers: Make two flowers in different sizes and stack them

🎯 PROJECT IDEAS:

  • Hair clips or headbands
  • Appliqués for bags, pillows, or clothing
  • Coasters (make a set of 4-6)
  • Gift toppers or greeting card embellishments
  • Baby blanket decorations
  • Brooches or earrings (stiffen with starch)

Congratulations! Your sweet little flower is complete! 🌸
