🎒 PART 1: POUCH BODY (Cream)
We work in continuous rounds (do not join, do not turn). Use a stitch marker to track the beginning of each round.
Rnd 1: MR, 6 sc into ring. Pull tight. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)
Rnd 3: Sc 1, inc — repeat 6 times. (18 sts)
Rnd 4: Sc 2, inc — repeat 6 times. (24 sts)
Rnd 5: Sc 3, inc — repeat 6 times. (30 sts)
Rnd 6: Sc 4, inc — repeat 6 times. (36 sts)
Rnd 7: Sc 5, inc — repeat 6 times. (42 sts)
Rnds 8-20: Sc in each st around. (42 sts) — 13 rounds even
⚠️ This creates the main body of the pouch — keep your tension consistent!
🪢 PART 2: DRAWSTRING EYELETS
Now we create the holes for the drawstring cord.
Rnd 21: Sc 5, ch 2, skip 2 sts — repeat 6 times around. (30 sc + 6 ch-2 spaces)
Rnd 22: Sc 5, 2 sc into ch-2 space — repeat 6 times. (42 sts)
Rnds 23-25: Sc in each st around. (42 sts) — 3 rounds even
Rnd 26: Sl st in each st around. (42 sl sts)
FO, weave in end.
🧵 PART 3: DRAWSTRING CORD
You have two options:
Option A — Braided Cord (recommended for beginners):
- Cut 6 strands of yarn, each 80 cm (31 inches) long
- Tie them together at one end with a tight knot
- Divide into 3 groups of 2 strands each
- Braid tightly until cord measures approximately 45-50 cm (18-20 inches)
- Tie the other end with a tight knot
- Trim excess yarn, leaving 2-3 cm (1 inch) tassels
Option B — Crocheted Cord (neater finish):
- Ch 100-120 (adjust for desired length)
- Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across
- FO, weave in ends
🪡 ASSEMBLY:
-
Thread the cord: Using your yarn needle or a safety pin, thread the drawstring cord through the eyelets in Round 21
- Enter at any eyelet
- Go around the entire pouch through all 6 eyelets
- Exit at the same eyelet where you started
-
Secure ends: Tie the two ends of the cord together with a double knot
-
Optional tassels: If using braided cord, fluff out the tassel ends. If using crocheted cord, you can add small pom-poms or beads to the ends
-
Weave in all remaining yarn ends neatly inside the pouch
💡 TIPS FOR BEGINNERS:
✅ Count your stitches after every round — especially important in the increases!
✅ Keep tension consistent — not too tight (pouch won't be flexible), not too loose (gaps will show)
✅ Use a stitch marker — essential for tracking round beginnings
✅ The eyelet round (Rnd 21) is key — make sure your ch-2 spaces are even
✅ Block for best finish — lightly steam or wet-block for professional results
✅ Cord length matters — test that it pulls closed comfortably before trimming
✨ VARIATIONS:
🎒 Mini gift bag: Use fingering weight yarn + 2.5mm hook for tiny jewelry pouch
🎒 Striped version: Change colors every 3-4 rounds for boho style
🎒 Textured pouch: Work Rnds 8-20 in BLO for ribbed effect
🎒 Larger size: Continue increasing (Rnd 8: sc 6, inc repeat, Rnd 9: sc 7, inc repeat, etc.) to 48-54 sts
🎒 Add a base: Work Rnds 1-6, then continue in BLO for Rnd 7 to create a defined flat bottom
Congratulations! Your beautiful drawstring pouch is complete! 🎒
